REVISED Plaid Ballgown design by Spirit-of-the-Mist REVISED Plaid Ballgown design by Spirit-of-the-Mist
This is the revised design for my plaid Civil War Ballgown. I cam up with and sewed this design (instead of the original one I had) after I found out I didn't have enough plaid fabric. So I bought some red fabric and sheer lace panels to use and came up with this new design while I was sewing it!

Here's all the pieces that go with the gown- all of these are COMPLTLY hand-sewn:

-Sheer white base underskirt with wide red ruffle (bottem) medium maroon/white plaid ruffle, and off-white rose patterned lace ruffle with tiny marroon rose accents and ribbon bows (top layer)
-White silk overskirt with plaid swags and bows, red and white roses, and white tulips.
-White cotten bodice with heavy linen lining, point front, plaid collar and waist band trim, maroon braided ribbon and white lace collar trim, white cotten oversleeves with plaid trim, sheer white pouf undersleeves, red and white rose and plaid bow accents.
-Red and white rose/ flowered wire head piece

Here is a list of the undergarments I've made for the gown: (Also completly hand-sewn)

- Heavy cream linen drawstring drawers, trim with lace and white ribbon
-Sheer, white polyester knee- length chemise
-White trigger corset with back lacing and 9 hook front (no boning- I wanted to breathe!!)
-White cotten hip roll with ties
-White cotten 4-hoop skirt, maximum circumfrence of 150 inches, sewn-in sash
-White cotten petticoat with gathered waist and sewn-in sash

The original gown isn't for sale, but I can make another for you (of the same design). Custom fit for you! Let me know if you would like to order a gown ^_^

Price would depend on fabric costs and amount of detail, which determines how much time is needed to make the gown. When I made the plaid ballgown, it took around 15yds. of fabric total (4.5yds. white, 3yds. plaid, 4yds red, 3yds lace fabric), plus the zipper, thread, flowers, and lace trim on the collar.

Avg. of $5/yd for 15 yds.fabric: $75, trim and notions: ~$12-15, Avg. of 15 hrs. for patterning and sewing at $5/hour: $75. Total cost would probably be around $165, plus shipping. That's about as cheap you will find for a Civil War gown, especially a custom fit gown.
